Major Gift Giving Options for The Hospice Care Foundation and Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.
The excellent reputation enjoyed by Hospice derives in part from the
compassionate professionals who provide our services, but the key to
Hospice's success goes much deeper than that, to our many partners
who volunteer to help in so many ways and to our supporters whose
generosity helps cover the unreimbursed costs of Hospice services
and enables us to undertake new and important initiatives. Hospice is
looking for major donors to partner with us in the implementation of
new initiatives that will strengthen us by positioning Hospice to meet
the increasing demand of a system designed to make our service available to all who
want and need it. For ways to make a major gift, see "Ways of Giving".
There will always be a need for Hospice's essential hospice, palliative,
psychosocial, spiritual and bereavement counseling services. And
there is no more important long-term need than to ensure the permanence
of these vital services. Gifts to the endowment will help
Hospice to manage critical aspects of the business, including the
cyclical demands of census management, to facilitate "fast track"
admission of patients who need services immediately but are experiencing
impediments to their admission and to make higher levels of care available to greater numbers of patients and their families. Ideally, a well-funded
endowment will also provide the interest income necessary to implement a host of new
and enhanced programs for the benefit of our patients that could include a special needs
fund for patients and families.
Are you interested in leaving your imprint on Hospice forever? A gift of $1,000,000 or
more will transform Hospice in ways that can be currently identified and in ways that
cannot yet be imagined. A donor at this level of generosity will have the Hospice
Foundation's general endowment named in honor of a person or family that they designate.
The donor will also have the option of dedicating the purposes of endowment spending.
Donors of $250,000 or greater can have permanently named sustaining endowments,
also with the ability to dedicate the purposes of endowment spending.
Endowment gifts of $100,000 or more, either as lifetime gifts or as estate gifts, will entitle
donors to membership in the Hospice Legacy Society.
Gifts in lower denominations will enrich Hospice services, and touch the lives of Hospice
patients and their families, in the very same way, in perpetuity. We sincerely hope that
you will consider an gift to the Hospice Endowment, either now or as a bequest in your
will.

Medical Director
Hospice & Palliative Care is seeking $150,000 for "bridge"
funding until census-driven revenues create (full-time) the
ongoing revenue stream to support this essential position.
No single action is likely to have such a dramatic and positive
impact on Hospice. A full-time director will clearly have an operational
impact, but more importantly will foster program and
service enhancements. Communications with other doctors
and referral sources will be facilitated. Home visits will increase, and patients and
families will benefit from enhanced treatment plans. Building relationships will benefit
all Hospice constituencies.
Mortgage Burning
This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a supporter to have an impact on Hospice
that is as significant as it is symbolic. The outstanding balance of Hospice's mortgage
now stands at $130,000. If you commit to assisting Hospice in this way, we will plan a
mortgage burning ceremony with splash and a naming opportunity with dash!
Patient Care Annex Expansion
As outreach efforts are successful and patient census grows, Hospice staff must grow
to serve the patients needs. A 1,000 sq. ft. expansion of our Middle Settlement Road
facility is necessary to accommodate more nurses, counselors, support staff and a fulltime
medical director. The cost of the furnished expansion is estimated to be $200,000.
Landscaping/Grounds Maintenance
A very highly visible way to support Hospice is through gifts Grounds to enhance the plantings on the grounds surrounding the Siegenthaler Center and the entire Hospice property.
Several projects and a maintenance endowment with price tags ranging from $5,000 - $100,000 exist. Naming opportunities are available commensurate with the project and the size of the gift.
Community Support Center
The vital counseling services of The Community Support Center are now located in the
Dove Medical Park. To assist Hospice professionals in their efforts to reach out and
serve the bereavement and counseling needs of our community, several $5,000 naming
opportunities exist with The Community Support Center’s Counseling Rooms.
Bereavement Services
Hospice is required to provide bereavement services, and given
our unique qualifications, this is most appropriate. We do not,
however, receive any reimbursement from Medicare or other
insurers for our extensive network of programs, including the
highly-acclaimed "What About Me?" Grief Within the Classroom
program for children who have experienced loss. Children are
able to express their feelings and heal their grief through individual
and group support provided within the school setting. Healthier children make for
healthier communities. A gift in support of this vital service can be structured in a number
of ways. Perhaps you would like to “adopt” an entire program, or perhaps you would like
to fund the “What About Me?” program for a year or two in a specific school. If your interest
is in helping those coping with illness or who survive the death of a loved one, let’s
look to find a bereavement funding option that is personally meaningful to you.
Charity/Supplemental Care
Hospice is dedicated to providing its professional services to everyone who needs them,
regardless of their ability to pay.
Endowment
An endowment for assistance with the cost of care will allow all patients to access Hospice
services, including the Siegenthaler Center, quickly, completely and with dignity. A gift of
$100,000 will generate interest in an amount that could theoretically serve several families
each year.
Patient/Family Special Needs Fund
Related to the above endowment is this fund to provide for the special, emergency needs
that sometimes arise for patients and families with limited resources or liquidity. A gift of
$50,000 will establish a fund that should cover annual requests from this fund for
decades to come.
Complimentary Therapies
There are many therapies that can enhance traditional hospice care.
Currently our ability to provide these therapies, including massage, pet,
music, hypnosis, comfort touch and others, is limited by funding. Donors with
a strong desire to improve the end-of-life experience for our patients
should consider a gift to enable Hospice to implement a complimentary
therapy. Therapy "sponsorships" begin at $10,000.
Security System
Hospice's present security system meets all requisite codes. To bring it to a level of functionality
that will provide the highest level of coverage, a $25,000 retrofit is required.
Technology
Technology is an integral component of any business, but it is particularly important for
efficiently administering a healthcare business dependent upon accurate patient information
and numerous funding sources. Annual technology costs approach $50,000/year.
You can choose to fund a year, two years or more, and we'll gladly find the proper way to
recognize your generosity!
