November is National Hospice Month.

How much do you know about the hospice services in your community?  Please take a few moments to learn more about hospice care.  Hospice is a comprehensive health care program for people with any life-threatening illness and a life expectancy of six months or fewer, if the disease follows its normal course.  Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. in New Hartford is an independent nonprofit organization governed by a dedicated volunteer, community-based Board of Directors.  Trained professionals and volunteers provide its services.  Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death.  It is a life-enhancing support system designed to promote the quality of life and enable the patient to remain at home where caregivers receive instruction and support from Hospice Care staff in caring for their loved one.


Do you know what services Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. provides? At Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., an interdisciplinary team of professionals and volunteers provide the care necessary to meet the full range of the patient’s needs. Hospice professionals develop an individualized plan of care based on the needs and wishes of the patient and family. They continuously review and update the plan of care during the patient’s stay with Hospice. Specific services provided are medical, nursing, social work, home health, spiritual, and volunteer services, bereavement support, and inpatient care.


Have you ever thought about becoming a Hospice Volunteer? Hospice volunteers are men and women of all ages and backgrounds, employed or retired, who give their time to help others. All volunteers have completed a free and extensive training program and they are members of the Hospice team. Volunteers choose assignments that best suit their time, skills, and interests. They provide practical and emotional support to patients and families, bereavement support, and office and fundraising assistance.
